On Consuelo Cloos:
“Consuelo Cloos (1887-1985), poet and surrealistic impressionist, was a prolific artist who produced her major artworks in the 1940s and 1950s. She produced nearly 1000 works in oils, pastels, watercolors and mixed media. Some of her art has been sparingly displayed in various galleries since the 1940s, and although, in 1948, she was offered up to $1200.00 for her most important work by a well-known Boston gallery (documented), she refused to sell any of her “children.”
After having met Salvador Dali in 1976 in New York, Cloos was invited to exhibit some of her works in his gallery in Spain; a rare occurrence, as Dali was not known for promoting other artists. He described her work as “magnifique.” Again, the artist insisted that none of her works be sold.” (Source)
