October 22, 1913 marks the birth of photographer Robert Capa - known for his combat photos from 5 separate armed conflicts. He was the co-founder of Magnum Photos. Capa was born Endre Friedmann, a Hungarian citizen, but he invented an American sounding name for himself before he emigrated to the US.
Capa was the lover of Ingrid Bergman and friends with John Steinbeck with whom he collaborated on a travel book, A Russian Journal.

Capa died in the French Indochina War in 1954 from wounds he incurred by stepping on a land mine.
