Peter Blake: The Owl and the Pussycat, 1981-83 - Bristol Art Gallery
Peter Blake (b. June 25, 1932) is an English pop artist, best known for his design of the sleeve for the Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ was painted to fit an Art Nouveau embossed copper frame, of about 1900, and Blake’s pea-green boat echoes the design of the one on the frame. The beginning of Edward Lear’s nursery rhyme is illustrated and includes the jar of honey and the money wrapped in a five-pound note.
